I. Define Purpose and Material Compatibility

Though all small thermoforming machines fall under thermoplastic forming equipment, their heating methods, forming structures, vacuum systems, and compatible materials vary significantly. Therefore, before selection, clearly define the intended purpose, including:

1.  Intended Material Types

Common thermoplastics include:

PP (Polypropylene): Frequently used for food packaging cups and disposable containers, requiring higher moulding temperatures;

PS (Polystyrene): Wide heating range with good processability;

PET/PETG: High transparency demanding stricter temperature control;

PVC: Economical yet practical, but with specific requirements for heating methods and exhaust gas treatment;

ABS: Requires enhanced heating capacity and pressure systems;

Biodegradable materials (PLA, PBAT formulations): Demand more uniform and precise temperature control.

Significant variations exist in the softening temperatures of different materials. Mismatched heating systems can lead to issues such as uneven foaming, unstable stretching, and incomplete moulding. Therefore, before purchasing, it is essential to identify the primary materials to be processed and verify that the Small Thermoforming Machine supports the required temperature range, vacuum structure, and cooling method.

2. Product Geometry and Moulding Complexity

III. Moulding System

Small thermoforming machines primarily serve small-batch production or laboratory settings, where product variety and frequent changeovers are commonplace. Consequently, the rational design of the moulding system is paramount.

A robust mould-holding structure significantly reduces changeover time while ensuring stable forming positions without misalignment.

Mould dimensions may not be interchangeable across different thermoforming machine models. If producing multiple products, opt for equipment with standardised mould platform sizes and high compatibility to minimise subsequent moulding costs.

As product requirements increase, many materials necessitate maintaining mould temperatures within specific ranges. A more precise mould temperature control system ensures smoother moulded surfaces and dimensional stability.

IV. Automation Level

Even for small thermoforming machines, the sophistication of automation features directly impacts production efficiency, labour costs, and operational experience.

Fully automated equipment: Featuring automatic feeding, heating, forming, cutting, and stacking, suitable for stable batch production.
