Three Common Types of Thermoforming Machines

Introduction 

Thermoforming is a widely used plastics processing process. Thermoformed products are ubiquitous and play an important role in our daily lives, with applications in food packaging and other fields.

Thermoforming is to fix the thermoplastic plate or sheet on the mould, rely on the heater to heat the material to the softening temperature, use the vacuum pump to quickly extract the air between the plate and the mould, so that the material is adsorbed on the surface of the mould, and then release the mould to get the required plastic products after cooling.

Classification According to the Pressurisation Method

According to the different pressurisation methods of thermoforming, the mainstream thermoforming machines are mainly divided into the following three categories:

(1) Vacuum forming machine, mainly through the negative pressure vacuum way, so that the plastic sheet affixed to the mould;

(2) Positive pressure forming machine, through the air compressor on the front of the plastic sheet with atmospheric pressure, so that the softened plastic sheet affixed to the mould;

(3) Positive and negative pressure forming machines, which form a strong pressure difference between the two sides of the plastic sheet by means of pressurisation and vacuum, so that the softened plastic sheet is moulded. Each of these three types of equipment has its own advantages and disadvantages, and the choice of machine needs to be made according to the characteristics of the product.
